Tasha Kusama is a contemporary mixed media artist and painter, based in the Los Angeles area. She has a BFA from the Art Center College of Design.



About the print:
The Night Travelers are stages of being, going on the journey of the unknown - having a moment of reprieve, doing the round and round, the freeing of, and on to the next. Portals are there for the choosing - the revolving door, the shining gold, or on into the looming darkness. Each leads to the next phase of the story. Will it be a wise decision, or will it end up where it began? Playing music along the way...The original 22"x30" piece was painted in acrylic on Rives BFK paper.

This is a digital print on acid free, Neenah uncoated matte 100lb cover paper that is 80% recycled. It was digitally signed by the artist and was numbered by The Working Proof.

What is your process?
I usually work very directly, without much sketching or comping beforehand.

What has inspired you recently?
I love seeing new ideas, materials and processes. During art school I was turned on to contemporary art. After looking at so many “master” works, and older pieces of art for so long, contemporary art was like an explosion in my mind. It was love at first sight. I am not only interested in what’s happening now, but what’s happening next.

I am always amazed and inspired by the magic of life itself - metaphysical ideas, the universe, nature - the amazing things that often get taken for granted. As a woman and an artist, I contemplate what it is to exist in this culture - Hollywood, LA, and urban pop life - within the bigger picture of existence.

Why did you choose to pair the Pablove Foundation with your print?
I chose to pair my print with the Pablove Foundation. Pablo, the reason that the Pablove Foundation exists, was a friend of my family. My niece was in his pre-school class when he was diagnosed with cancer. I saw the valiant struggle that he and his family experienced. They went through it with so much love - it is an honor to give back to a cause with so much heart.



How have you seen art transform the world around you?
Art is essential in so many ways. Life=art, Art=life.

If you could pick one artist to mentor you, who would it be?
I wouldn’t mind a critique by Lari Pittman, Daniel Richter or Neo Rausch.

Who are some artists you think people should know about?
Kim Dorland, Marnie Weber, Erik Mark Sandberg, Allison Schulnik, Barry McGee, Lotte Reiniger, Clayton Brothers, Jennifer West, Benjamin Paul Morris, Maika Kusama, Swoon, and so many more that I love. I admire so many artists.
